OVM Tool & Die Center
Ohio Valley Manufacturing’s toolroom can provide complete die build, die repair and die maintenance services to our customers.
Ohio Valley has a full time staff in the toolroom that consists of 13 toolmakers.
Ohio Valley offers design capabilities from the concept through completion of new tools.
- Our design and toolroom staffs have the resources and skills to implement engineering changes to tools. If timing or size are issues, we are diverse enough to program manage the change.
- Ohio Valley offers an Apprentice Tool & Die maker program at North Central State College, for any employees of OVM. (see “Employment” page for details)
Our toolroom equipment affords us the ability to remake die components for our tools.
- Our Fadal CNC is equipped with CAD/CAM software at the machine. This allows the operators to import CAD files to machine detail, as well as create 2-D and 3-D tool paths as necessary.
- Design software: Expert CAD
- Import/Export capabilities: IGES, SXF, DWG, CATIA (version 4), CAD KEY, PARASOLIDS, SOLID EDGE, SOLID WORKS and STEP.
Die components that do not have CAD geometry available or are bench worked details, can be reverse engineered on our CNC/CMM. This allows us to have geometry of component if it becomes necessary to replace it.
- CNC/CMM software: Open DMIS
- Renishaw PH-9/TP2 motorized probe head
- Renishaw TP-2 touch trigger probe
- Measuring strokes:
- x-axis- 52”
- y-axis- 38”
- z-axis- 38”
- Repeatability: .0001”
- Import capability: IGES, STEP, DXF CAD import.
- Export capability: IGES
Ohio Valley implements the use of hydraulic shock dampers in our press lines.
- These units negate all or most of the reverse tonnage produced at material “snap through”.
- These units are particularly beneficial in heavy blanking operations and high strength material applications.
- This provides our customers with two distinct benefits:
- The tool life is extended because the side load on components is minimized and these results in less breakage and wear of die components.
- The dampers also Protects our press equipment. The adverse effects of “snap through” conditions are wear and tear to press equipment over time. By capturing this reverse tonnage, we protect our presses and minimize down time. This helps to ensure delivery of the product to our customers.
