Custom Manufactured Steel Circle Blanks for Various Applications

In many industries, circle blanking lines improve efficiency and productivity. Circle blanking tools are specialized designs used to cut circular pieces from metal coils such as carbon steel. The heavy truck, trailer, automotive, and several other sectors use circle blanking machines to produce high-quality, accurate parts for many products.

The circle blanking process involves the following key steps:

  • Material Loading: The process begins with loading the coil onto the coil arbor. Depending on the application, the material could comprise different types of metals, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, among others.
  • Flattening: After loading, operators feed the metal coil into a straightener, which flattens the material based on the project specifications.
  • Feeding: The coil then goes through a precision stamping press.
  • Blanking: Following feeding, the machinery uses a die and punch to “blank” the material, cutting it into circular pieces. Blanking occurs as the upper section of the die pushes down into the lower part. During this process, one stroke of the press can produce multiple circles.
  • Material Unloading: After cutting is completed, operators unload the finished circular pieces from the equipment and prepare them for shipping to the customer.

Ohio Valley Manufacturing’s Offerings

With experience in machining, tool design, and tool building, Ohio Valley Manufacturing is a perfect fit for clients that require circle blanking services.

Based on your unique project needs, our experts can work with various types of materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Additionally, we can adapt our services and equipment for industry-specific applications, such as automotive components, military equipment, heavy trailer and truck parts, and agricultural machinery.

Ohio Valley Manufacturing’s Capabilities

Many industries require packaged circle materials in various thicknesses and sizes depending on the application, which can include:

  • Transportation
  • Automotive
  • Heavy truck and trailer
  • Material handling equipment
  • Tank heads
  • Wheels
  • Lawn and garden applications

To meet each client’s needs, we develop specialized tooling that can fulfill challenging circle blanking requirements. Our equipment can blank mild-strength to high-strength grade 80 steel circle materials. Additionally, we can blank circles with various widths and lengths, as well as thicknesses ranging from .020″ to .625″ and diameters up to 40”. Our other capabilities include multiple cavity blanking for large-volume production.

We complete the entire production run from our ISO 9001:2015-certified facility, including packaging and delivery.

Services

In addition to high-precision specialty blanking equipment, we offer these services to help complete each project:

  • Robotic Welding: This process is critical for assembling automotive and heavy truck parts, providing highly durable, long-lasting welds without the need for extensive manual labor. Automated welding systems also allow for greater control over welding parameters, resulting in better quality and consistent structural integrity for completed parts.
  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD): Using CAD software, we develop detailed models and simulations to test designs for automotive and heavy truck components. CAD helps engineers adjust the design to optimize efficiency and performance. Other benefits of CAD include the ability to streamline workflows, gain a deeper understanding of parts with complex geometries, and make iterative modifications so that the design meets the required quality standards.

Carbon Steel Circle Blanking Specifications

Carbon steel is a steel alloy comprising carbon and iron. It comes in low, medium, high, and ultra-high carbon options, and its strength increases the higher the carbon content, which can be as much as 2.5% by weight.

The following are some specific advantages of carbon steel in circle blanking applications:

  • Strength: Carbon steel’s durability gives it considerably more strength than stainless steel and other alloys. While it lacks protection against the elements and other harsh environments, it holds up well in high temperatures.
  • Versatility: The four options give manufacturers a variety of carbon steel types to choose from based on their unique needs. For instance, applications requiring high strength and rigidity would benefit from high or ultra-high carbon steel, while those needing ductile materials would benefit from low or medium carbon steel.
  • Affordability: Carbon steel has a similar hardness to other materials but is less expensive.
  • Recyclability: Carbon steel offers the same ease of recycling as aluminum.
