1. Increase in Truck and Trailer Manufacturing

   We’ve been seeing a lot of good news in the trucking industry recently. Not only has the US manufacturing sector have been seeing stronger and stronger rates, but we’ve also seen an increase in Class 8 tractor sales. According to data from Wards Auto, the first quarter of 2015 was the best for Class 8 tractor sales in nine years.

   As more and more companies are manufacturing tractors there is also a rise in trailer manufacturing. ACT Research found that trailer manufactures will ship approximately 303,000 trailers this year, an increase of 12% from last year. There are several factors impacting the increase of trailer manufacturing, including pent-up demand from the Great Recession and the overall improved economy, which has increasing freight volumes.

   At Ohio Valley Manufacturing we have been experiencing this growth firsthand. We have been busy quoting and starting on new work and have our facility running six days a week to keep up with production. We’re happy with the first half of the year and we aren’t currently anticipating a slowdown in the second half.

2. Ohio’s Auto Manufacturing Sector

   For Ohioans it may not be a surprise that our state is an auto manufacturing hub. Recently, Honda, Ford, and Mitsubishi all announced plans to manufactures in Ohio. Honda will be expanding its capacity of its East Liberty plant to keep up with the demand for more trucks, SUVs, and crossover vehicles. Mitsubishi is once again expanding its Mason facility. The company sees a growing North American automotive market and chose the Mason location due to its proximately to automakers, such as Toyota, GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Finally, Ford’s Cleveland plant will begin producing the EcoBoost engines for the first time in North America.  Previously this engine was made in Valencia, Spain but Ford has decided to move production to reduce shipment and production costs.

   At Ohio Valley Manufacturing we’ve been reading the news about reshoring efforts and products made in America. It seems that almost every month the manufacturing sector continues to grow and we couldn’t be happier with the news. As an American made company our main focus has always been on the quality of our products and services. In the past we have seen some tools that were built overseas that do not make parts to print, which means that we have then had to rebuild these tools to make quality parts.

   With parts made in America we have never seen quality issues like that as manufacturers must adhere certain standards. For our own company we are ISO 9001:2008 certified and our Quality Manager has established a Quality Management System which reviews everything from customer requirements through purchasing to production and delivery. We are continuously reviewing our processes and equipment and encourage employee and customer feedback.
